MOLLY SUGDEN, the actress who played Mrs. Slocombe on the BBC's ARE YOU BEING SERVED has passed away. I don't know if I can take any more of these celebrity deaths (if you weren't paying attention KARL MALDEN may have slipped between the cracks. Geez, the man starred in ON THE WATERFRONT AND A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE).  If you were a kid in the pre-cable 70's, ARE YOU BEING SERVED was a STAPLE of public television.

On a more bizarre note,  my beloved L.A. LAKERS have acquired RON ARTEST from the HOUSTON ROCKETS.  Looks like it's going to be GOODBYE  TREVOR ARIZA. BEN LEE HANDLER seems to think this is all good but I'm in WAIT AND SEE MODE.  

I was feeling nostalgic today for the recent past when friends were real friends, not "facebook friends". SIGH...

ALL MAKING ME HAPPY!

I owned EVERY JACKSON 5 Forty-Five when I was a kid. If you weren't around then, it's kind of hard to separate Michael then from what he turned into. He was unquestionably a paradigm of cool. He was the Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers of his time except he actually made incredibly good records. I, like many of my peers at the time, totally worshipped him. I remember my dad telling me that if he heard NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE one more time he was going to throw my record in the trash can. BEN can absolutely reduce me to tears every single time. I always had a hunch that if I woke up one day and the OLD MICHAEL WAS BACK, somehow everything in the world be okay. A TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL HERE...

KENNY BEANS, IAN MAC and THOMAS WHITE, you are all getting me through it.  THANK YOU! WHEN YOU'VE BEEN AWAKE ALL NIGHT, WHY SHOULD YOU CRASH OUT AT DAWN?

I ended a nearly TWO DECADE friendship today.  Don't ask because I won't divulge details but let it suffice to say that it was a toxic relationship and I'm glad it's over.  I'm sad that I'm not getting any return on a years long investment but relieved  to have a lighter load. I was NOTHING BUT GOOD TO YOU and you know it. You can make all the excuses in the world you want for treating me like a doormat but if you look deep down inside you know you've done me wrong. You do it to EVERYONE.  Maybe when you take inventory, you'll GET IT and turn things around (though at this stage of the game that doesn't seem likely given all the therapy and other "self help" stuff you've been through. isn't the point of a lot of that stuff SELF AWARENESS?). Sure I've got my own demons but I try to give a lot of love. In the words of NELLY FURTADO, "I'm like a bird..."

JUNE 28TH IS THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STONEWALL REBELLION. WE'VE COME A LONG WAY BUT WE'VE STILL GOT A LONG WAY TO GO. BARACK OBAMA'S BRIEFING ON DOMA IS A BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF HIS PAST RHETORIC AS REGARDS DON'T ASK DON'T TELL AND GAY MARRIAGE. DON'T BE SNOOKERED BY HIS DECISION TO OFFER BENEFITS TO FEDERAL WORKERS WHO HAVE SAME SEX PARTNERS, IT'S A SMOKE SCREEN. HE HAS REALLY BACK PEDDLED AND WE MUSN'T LET UP ON HIM OR HIS ADMINISTRATION UNTIL WE ARE GIVEN OUR FULL CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. DEAR MR. PRESIDENT, YOU GOT OUR SUPPORT, WHERE'S YOURS? KEEP FIGHTING THE POWER, WE SHALL OVERCOME!

P.S. SURGERY WENT WELL, NOT NEARLY AS MISERABLE AS LAST TIME. NO STUFF SHOVED UP MY NOSE! MY SINUSES ARE ACTUALLY FEELING BETTER THAN BEFORE I WENT IN! KEEP A GOOD THOUGHT...

Anyone with half a brain will be going to see ART BRUT and TALL HANDS at SPACELAND, LOS ANGELES tonight.  I on the other hand, will be writhing in misery wishing that I didn't have a POUND OF GAUZE stuffed up my nose post sinus surgery. Argggghhh. Not happy about doing it again and GUTTED about missing the ART BRUT residency in L.A.

SOMETHING NEW: KOBE WINS HIS 4TH NBA TITLE (AND FINALS MVP) AND DOES IT WITHOUT SHAQ. THE LAKERS WENT OUT ON HIGH NOTE IN A WELL EXECUTED GAME. I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. DEAR BAY AREA LAKER HATERS AND LAKER HATERS EVERYWHERE, SHUT THE FUCK UP!

p.s. Thanks to the city and people of Los Angeles. Opening at FEDERAL ART PROJECT was a smashing success and I had a blast with friends old and new.
